Google+ now gives verified profiles, early access to new features to some Collections and Communities users

http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/09/google_plus_create/It looks like Google+ is still in the social fight (or at least staggering back from the corner). Techcrunch reported that Google+ has released a few new updates.

First up, is they are now adding verified profiles (much like Twitter) and adding the ability to get access to new features. Many of these new features are focused on curation or making Google+ a destination for creators. Here’s a little more from TechCrunch:

A few months ago, Google pivoted Google+ away from being a basic social network and put a focus on content curation instead. To reward the most interesting and active users on its service, Google today launched the Google+ Create program.

Google says that since it launched the redesigned Google+ in November, the number of Collection follows has more than doubled. This means more people on Google+ now use these new features — though it doesn’t necessarily mean the number of Google+ users is also up.

“We want to celebrate these inspiring creators, provide a place for them to collaborate with others, and amplify their unique voices,” the Google+ team writes today. “Google+ Create members get a verified profile, early access to new product features, a private channel with the Google+ team, and new opportunities to get their content in front of the right audience.” Google+ now gives verified profiles, early access to new features to some Collections and Communities users | TechCrunch

The question remains is there room for Google+ is the current social/mobile landscape? With Facebook and Twitter the clear social leaders you also have platforms such as Snapchat, Vine, Instagram, Pinterest filling other voids. Where does that leave Google+ in that landscape? I will say that the collections is an interesting addition and move for the network to make. I found looking at quite a few collections to be a great experience. So this might be something to keep an eye on.
